I set-up a DNN site and after making several changes to get it working just right I noticed it was running toooo slow. Well I searched for answers everywhere. I found topics about keepalive, compression, changing the cache settings, tweek this, adjust that. None of which made a difference in the speed of my site. After upgrading to SQL Server 2005 I noticed the problem could be attributed to one field in the HostSettings table of the DNN database. PerformanceSetting was somehow changed to 0 from the default setting of 3. I am not certain when I made the mistake of changing this setting but it happened. So check this setting if you have a site that is running extremely slow.

The setting you are referring to can be changed under Host > Host Settings >  Advanced Settings > Performance Setting.

3 = Moderate Caching.  I would recommend Heavy Caching which is a 6 in the DB.
