I'm having issues with system slowness. I have DNN 4.3.7 installed with SQL 2005 Express. It is often inconsistent; however, it seems to speed up when the system starts caching data.

At times, it has taken over 3 minutes for a page to load. Any ideas? Perhaps some DNN/IIS6/SQL2K5 optimizations for DNN?

One of my personal websites started going very slow like that and would time out. It was due to a free module I loaded. Has it always been this slow, or have you just noticed it lately? Also, you should check out the cache settings on your site. I installed the free Page Blaster module and that helped, but still wasn't quite as fast as it should have been. Then I found a free tool / windows application that I placed on the server that goes out and ping's our website every 10 minutes or so. Wow, after that was done all of our sites really speed up.

DV.. you can use any of the free keepalive pinging tools. You could use SmarterPing from smartertools, or if you want to be notified if your site is down at the same time, you could use something like HostTracker (www.host-tracker.com i think)

be sure to ping /keepalive.aspx, hits to this page will not be recorded in the dnn site log

also please note: it is advisable to remove modules from your site if you are not using them, this will save considerable time when loading the site for the first time (all dlls must be loaded)

also please note: in a shared hosting environment, with 100s of sites on one server, if everyone uses keepalive, this will bring down the server for sure. Hosting providers count in a non-usage of sites to establish the optimal number of sites on one server. If the only visitor of your site is your pingning utility you should consider not using it, or at least not ping your site every 10 minutes
