My problem is that the Solpart nav and actions menus only work correctly in IE under Quirks mode (DNN 4.3). Turn on Standards mode and the SolPart menu has trouble calculating the height of the page, and Container Menus gradually get their vertical coordinates thrown off.

This is fine if you don't want to use CSS and forget about Firefox, Safari, Opera etc, but I would actually like to use a Standards mode DTD (I notice that this site uses Quirks mode, the default for DNN).

I use CSS based menus for navigation and the dropdownactions menu in my containers.

CSS based menus are much easier to style than Solpart, lighter in page size and work well for search. Dropdownactions works in all browsers, even if it isn't as slick as Solpart.

Use Housemenu and CSS.....

I am using HouseMenu - I was just disappointed at how bad the SolPart Actions menu looks under a correct DTD. I got the DropDown Actions working, but I had to shrink the font down to stop it from taking up too much width. And of course, DropDownActions looks very lame and old fashioned compared to the rest of the site.

I've looked around for a CSS alternative for the Actions menu, but I haven't found anything. If anyone knows of a (commercial) SkinObject that can replace Solpart Actions and DropDown Actions, please post it here and I will gladly consider purchasing it.

I wonder why DNN runs in Quirks Mode out of the box? So much effort could have been avoided if it ran in (Almost) Standards Mode from the get-go.

I'm sorry, I responded a little bit to quickly on you post.
I would also prefer a CSS solution, but I have no idea if there is an alternative (never looked for it either).
If you find a solution, please post it, I'll have a look around too.
Dnn runs in quircks out of the box because of downwards compatibility.
If this would be changed a lot of skins would completely fall apart after an update.
