I finally got my two column XHTML skin layout to display as intended in both IE 6 and Firefox 2. Then, as so many before me, I hit the Solpart Menu wall :(

In the XML file I've set the menualignment to Justify, which works as it should... untill I add separators, that is. Then it seems as the separators are thrown into the "justify mix" and additional horizontal space is allocated to each separator relative to what the menu items get (in order to fill up the entire width of the menu area).

Each separator gets aligned to the left within its new "stretched space" leaving a hole on its right where the background of the MainMenu_MenuBreak class shows.

What I expected:

|        item1       | sep |        item2       | sep |        item3       |

What I got was holes (marked with red):

|     item1     | sep |      |      item2     | sep |      |      item3     |

Any suggestions on this one?

Well, sometimes you just keep staring at a problem, and you don't see the obvious solution...

It seems whatever separator you define (text, image, div), it gets placed in a table cell of the MainMenu_MenuBreak class, and it's this cell that is thrown into the "justify mix".

Solution: Define a width for the MainMenu_MenuBreak class that is less or equal to the width of your separator and voilá - no more "holes" in the menu.
