Can anyone give me a few links to places selling skins? I'm looking for something not so businesslike.

Another thing I wanted to ask... which program is the best for designing a skin? I have designed sites with Frontpage and haven't the first clue about CSS. Which program makes designing skins the easiest?

I have a range of free skins you can download and try.

If you don't have CSS skills then you can use the html method of designing but you may have problems making an advance menu as you require skills in css there.

I have a site which has information about skinning - but it's not free - http://www.skincovered.com

But I have other sites that have free information to - http://www.xd.com.au and http://www.dnnskins.com

You will find there is a little bit of research required. I have created the skinning document in an downloadable chm format. It is avaliable here -

http://www.xd.com.au/downloads.xd

I hope you get some inspiration there to get you started

Are there any WYSIWYG editors for skins?

There are a number of places where you can find commercial skins:

The DNN community is lucky to have some very talented skin designers and using Google with search terms that are applicable to the tenor of the site you are looking to skin should present you with numerous options.

You can use any decent WYSIWYG editor to design HTML skins (Dreamweaver is a popular choice). DNN Creative has a comprehensive and high-quality series of articles on skin design that IMO is a must-read for beginning skin designers -- http://www.dnncreative.com/HowtoBuildaWebsiteinDotNetNuke/tabid/213/Default.aspx

You mention that you are not well-versed with CSS. DNN skin design is a secondary skill and more about understanding some basic rules of what DNN expects in a skin and how to make a design work with dynamic content. The primary skill required is web design which incorporates HTML, CSS and graphic design among others. As a word of caution, if you are looking to design skins for DNN often, it is better to first develop proficiency in standard web design techniques. You will find that DNN skinning is much, much easier if you have strong web design skills before venturing to create skins.
