You have to put in your own url based on what's in the address bar.  I use friendly urls so I know that the page name is going to be the home.aspx - an example is here http://www.alphait.biz/home.aspx  and  http://www.foodweek.com.au/Research-and-Foodscience.aspx  - where it's easy to put in the page name.

You basically need to put in the path that is after the domain name - perhaps you can use the aspnet method - I don't know how DotNetNuke handles it.

I just suggest solutions to my clients that are easy for them to remember.

Hope this helps a bit more.

Thanks Nina... :-)

I want to avoid hard coding absolute links if at all possible.  I want to make a portable skin that I can install on various DNN servers without having to go into the site and changing links every time I do so.  I have found one work-around, but can anyone tell me if this may cause problems down the road (eg. when it is used on other servers, or with future releases of DNN).

The solution is this:  I put  a relative URL  into the href that targets the default page 4 folders up from the skin folder.  That hits the default.aspx "home" page for that portal.  href="../../../../default.aspx"

This works ok on the dnn install I have running on my development server, but will it work with numerous portals?

This may work internally but if someone from the outside request a page, the url's will need to be absolute paths.  I may be mistaken about this but I think that's how it works.

That's a bummer!  Can anyone tell me how to create a relative link to the site root folder when developing skins?

You can link to the portal home page (or any named page) like this:  <a href="?tabname=Home">Home</a>
