Hi,

How come if I use the same html color number, like #00ccff, in a CSS file and in a .gif created with Photoshop, they look different?

An example is at http://www.WorkAtHomeParadise.com where the color mentioned above can be seen as the background in the logo .gif. On either side of that the background is filled in by that same color in the CSS. As you can see, they don't match.

Same thing for the dark blue in the menu bar, and the same dark blue gradient on either side of the pages.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks!

The background color of your logo is actually #00C8F7 - use that as the background in your css, and you should be set.
The color of the background now, #00ccff is the closest web-safe shade to the logo background.

ColorPic is a great tool for this kind of work.

Photoshop is changing the color on you when you save the file. You can bet the bank that the HTML color is correct. I can't remember off the top of my head what the exact issue is, but it is the mode you are working in and the quality of the image when you save it.

Set your background as #00C8F7 and it will match.

When I get in front of a machine with Photoshop on it I'll post back if you still need help.

Thank you both! Yes, if you find anything in Photoshop let me know. I have 7.0, but the documentation links do not work.

A gif uses indexed color, where there is a limited number of colors available to reproduce the image (max 256), that way you can describe a pixel with only one byte. A normal Bitmap uses 3 bytes (RGB) per pixel.

In Photoshop you can choose the way color table is created, or create one yourself.

Menu: File > Save for the web

    Select GIF as output format.

    Choose "Perceptual"

Now to make sure you have the exact background-color in the color table:

    Select the "Original" tab

    Select the eyedropper tool

    Click on the background-color

One of the colors in the color table is selected now, double-click it to check it's exact color.
