I am a beginner DNN user (2 weeks or so)  with ASP HTML and javascript experience. I have read the Skinning manual and have a cursory understanding of the skinning concepts.

I am attempting to create some new skins.  I am trying to use the HTML method for simplicity although I could use the ASP method.

My situation is this...

I am setting up numerous portals (in short a small web farm).

I would like to specify and image in my skin that would load dynamically from the PORTAL root folder of whatever portal is using that skin. Right now It appears that I can only load the image from the skin folder.

Short of writing a custom skin object similar to logo or banner (which I am afraid would lead to portability issues) does anyone know of a way to use a predefined variable that specifies the calling portal root folder. And if so is there a way to use it in the HTML rather than the ASP for the skin?

Help from anyone with more skinning experience than myself would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

Jeff

This the portal root can be accessed in the skin by using the following:

<%= PortalSettings.HomeDirectory %>

There is a really good - although a little old skin example that shows many of the sorts of varibles and other tricks that can be used to access different info about your current portal from the skin

Well worth the short download as a reference tool.
