for my first attempt at a custom skin for DNN I'm migrating an existing site into the DNN framework.

My problem is that the site has a side bar with a dark background & I can't seem to be able to control the color of the text for that container.

could someone please point me in the right direction.

TIA

You need to create a container that has a wrap div around the whole of the container or around HEAD and content pane - with id="common"

then in container css

#common .Head
{
set a different style to head in skin.css
}
#common .normal
{same as above

Thanks for your response Salar but I still have one problem. one section of my site uses the links module within this area of dark background and the links are rendered with class=Normal". How do I redefine this?

well the same as a above, you need to create a conteinaer that overides any standard class used in any module

in yourcase you will be using the links module that uses.normal and if it happens to go where the dark background is then you can apply the container with the overide for .normal to make .normal a lighter colour so to be seen on dark background
