Hi all,

I am glad DNN finally allows you to specify the doctype allowing XHTML to be configured.

I have noticed however that in IE all the admin pages have centered text when XHTML is enabled rendering them rather ugly. They render fine in Firefox however.

Does anyone know what one has to do to resolve this issue?

cheers,
Robert

you have to create a different skin for Admin and configure it in Site Setting.

For example:

1. create new skin "skin_Admin.ascx" and "skin_Admin.doctype.xml"; in the new skin insert only ContentPane and assign css styles that you want specific for that.

2. configure the new skin in Site Setting for admin skin

Yes, but specifying xhtml as doctype does not solve anything, if you think of getting errorfree, that means w3c validated html and css code.

I have made many changes, both in the dnn files (4.05.01 version) and the files related to the skin/containers and am now down to 138 errors (!)

Here are what i've done in the dnn files until now:

(Changes in bold)

In /default.aspx:
Add <html  xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> (This generates an error if you have made portal sites based on html 4.0 /4.01 doctype because they use the same default.aspx file. The setup of the doctype is done in the default.aspx.vb, maybe this error can be solved by moving the setup of the <html tag to that procedure. I'll test that.)
<head ... id="Head" deleted
<body ... bottommargin="0" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" rightmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" deleted.
<style id="StylePlaceholder" runat="server" type="text/css" added

In /portals/_default/default.css:
body { ....; margin: 0px; ... } added.
Replace all dimgray with #696969.
Replace all gainboro with #dcdcdc.
Add in .ModuleTitle_MenuBar {... height: 16px; ...}
Add in  .ModuleTitle_MenuIcon { ...width: 15px;  height: 21px; ...}
Add in  .MainMenu_MenuBar { ... height:16px; ... }
Add in  .MainMenu_MenuIcon {... width: 15px; height: 21px; ...}
Delete all cursor: hand;
Delete all filter:progid:DXIm ... ion=135, Strength=3);
Delete all display: -moz-inline-box;

In /controls/SolpartMenu/spmenu.js:
Replace all tags to Lower-case tags

In /js/dnn.js:
Replace all tags to Lower-case tags

Replacing to lower-case tags is a big job in dnn, there is many files to change!

And there is also a lot to do in all the .css files.

Was it not in the film Terminator he said: "I'll be back..."

For the original question if you put a css class in your skin you can correct most of the centering.  XHTML does not recognize align="left" on table cells, so try this in the skin.css:

td { text-align:left;}
