Hello,

So the story goes like this...

My boss put me in charge of putting our new extranet together with 0 previous DNN knowledge/experience.  IT sets it up for me and give me admin access to basically edit it any way I like (I am a multimedia designer) and fill it with boat loads of content.  Over the past few days I have been doing just that and really enjoying it as I really like the way this DNN stuff works.  Super slick.

Anyways, all was going well until I needed to change the login skin as it had the Leftpane in it like the rest of the site, so naturally when I added anything to leftpane of the site, it would be added to the login which was no good.

So in an attempt to get the leftpane out of the login skin I went to the admin-skins page and clicked apply on the login skin (was only 3 options, preview/apply/delete) and then things went all to hell.

I can no longer access the admin sections or any other section for that matter as I get the following error...

Server Error in '/' Application.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested Url: /Default.aspx

Now, i've gone and talked to IT and they don't seem terribly knowledgable as they gave me the 'well look into it'.

Does anyone recgonize this problem? or better yet, know how to get my extranet back?

It seems the "login skin" is corrupt.

How did you change it?

Can you access it directly (ftp or network)?

The following is ITs diagnostic of the problem...

The problem at hand happens when you have an image inside a content pane.  The paths for images in skins are replaced so that they can be referrenced correctly depending on the skin. The <%= SkinPath %> variable that is used will cause this error if it is inside a pane when the framework tries to add modules or in other words "modifies the controls collection.

Since admin section is not working, I cannot remove those image tags that you have inserted neither can I upload another skin.

They want to create another portal.  Is there anything I can tell them to salvage all the work i've done on the current portal?

If you can access the portal folder using FTP or the network you can rename your skins folder and DNN will revert to the default skin.

Then you can repair the skin and if your ready rename the folder back.

/portals/_default/Skins/"Skinname" is normally the folder your skin is in.

Please, always test a skin on a local installation...

Thanks much for your help.  Hopefully IT will be able to take care of this for me! :)
