I've written a module which is set up in a typical list-all-the-items/select-one-by-clicking/transfer-to-detail-edit-page format.

I've set the host skin and container settings for both admin and normal mode (in the Host Settings menu) to be DNN-Gray-whatever, and that's exactly what I get when I view the list-all page. Yet when I click on one of the items to view the detail, I end up on a DNN-Blue page.

It's almost like it's going back to the default setting for some reason. All the ascx pages descend from PortalModuleBase. I've looked through the page files and code behind, and there are no references to "skin" or "container", so I don't think I'm overriding some DNN behavior.

Has anybody got any ideas about what's going on/what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

So apparently I'm not doing anything "wrong" so much as I'm missing something (I hope!)

I just made a fresh install of DNN 4.8.0, setting all skins and containers to be some flavor of gray. I then created a new DNN module in VS2005 using the StarterKit template. Next, I built up the module definition in DNN, added it to a page, and clicked the "Edit" icon on the View page for the sample item.

Everything came up blue on the edit page.

So it's pretty clear that OOTB is not skin-friendly, and that I need to do something else besides just let it run. I looked through the skinning document, but it doesn't look like there's anything there. Ditto parts 1 and 2 of the Module Development Guide (looking for the word "skin").

Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks again.

Mm ive seen seen this behavious when i did master detail module displays and the weird dnn behavious of showing detail pages as edit skins.

the simplest solution would be to drop the code for the greyish design you are using in the dnnblue contaienr and skin ( I did that before on a dnn3 install but should still work on dnn )

Another option is to have the master detail page as one module, so you have one viewctrl and based on what you click you load either list.ascx control or detail.ascx control. You can then get the variable you need from the querystring

There were several samples online and in forum forthis kind of module, I dont think i have this code yet as I was fed up with some of the dnn features that I still used the dnn backends and build a more designer friendly developers framework to run inside dnn

update: i found some of my old bookmarks here is a sample switchboard module with source and explanation (dont know hich version )
