Any idea when we expect to see some updated documentation?

[Edit by Timo Breumelhof]

I moved all lack of documentation discussion after this post here:

Sorry, I cannot give you an estimate on when the new skinning docs will be ready, we are working on it.

I'm not sure what I should add to the top post IMO most of the changes are more or less in there.

Skin and CSS structure did not change.

There are no new CSS files, the resulting ASCX files after skin parse are still the same.
All the major changes are in the top post of this Forum, in fact they are mostly additions, not changes.

The only major thing that changed is that a skin pack needs a manifest file, to be a DNN 5 skin, but as said before DNN 4 skins still install (with some case sensitivity bugs until 5.0.1).

It might be people are refering to the new "object" way of adding a skin object.
That's a new way to add skin objects or I should say "another way", the "old" way (with the XML file) still works.

Still having problems?

If you have a skin / container that does not install or parse, first check the known issues (case sensitivity) and if that does not help, please start a thread about the problem.  It might be there are other problems but I didn't see them yet.
I'm sorry but I cannot answer "I had problems installing my skin" without an example.

(Again, thank you to the people who already did that)

I have followed the guidelines, as far as I can see, and get the error shown below:

Package Installation Report

See below for the results of the package installation

Error loading files from temporary folder - see below
StartJob Starting Installation
Info Starting Installation - Shadow-Skin
Info Starting Installation - Skin
Failure ExceptionSystem.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Services.Installer.Installers.SkinInstaller.Install()
Failure Installation Failed - Skin
Info Installation Failed - Shadow-Skin
Info Deleted temporary install folder
EndJob Installation Failed

Where is the temporary folder? Is this a permissions issue I wonder?

@Declan

I'm not sure what's going on.
Would you mind sending me the skin package, so I can test it myself?

Thanks

Timo,

Thanks for the offer. I will have a go at it tomorrow or wednesday and then if still in difficulty will send you the package. If successful I will post my findings.
