Here is the scenario:

I have a skin that uses solpart menu.  The client doesnt not want users to see any drop down menus.  Of course the easiest solution might be to just not include the sub pages in the menu.  Unfortunately this same skin is using the links skin object to display the links for the current sub further down on the page. I believe the links skin object is pulling its links from the solpart menu.  Maybe im mistaken though.  The point is if I dont include the page in solpart it doesnt show up in my links skin object.

So Ive spent some time digging for a solution and  looking through the skin reference I noticed that there is an option for rootonly. I tried to use this method to hide the sub menus.  This solution almost worked for me except for the fact that it also hid the admin and host sub menus.  So basically, I need all the submenus hidden except for the admin and host.

Maybe im approaching this all wrong.  Any solutions?

Hhrmmm.....that's an interesting one.  Perhaps you could....

  1. Spin a copy of the skin WITHOUT the "rootonly" option (the way it originally was).

  2. Create a new root page called "SiteAdmin" (or some similar).

  3. Make "SiteAdmin" page visible only to ADMIN and apply your "non-rootonly" skin to it.

  4. In ADMIN->SITE SETTINGS->APPEARANCE->ADMIN SKIN, set your admin skin to be your "non-rootonly" skin variation.

That's it (I think that will work, at least).  To access your ADMIN and HOST menus, click "SiteAdmin" which will swap your skin and make the ADMIn and HOST submenus available.

Good luck!
