When skinning the SolPart menu, I see how to control the display using various css classes but I always get stuck on the Breadcrumb state for the submenu icon.

The Main Menu has:
rootmenuitemcssclass=”MainMenu_RootMenuItem”
rootmenuitemactivecssclass=”MainMenu_RootMenuItemActive”
rootmenuitemselectedcssclass=”MainMenu_RootMenuItemSel”
rootmenuitembreadcrumbcssclass=”MainMenu_RootMenuItemActive”

And also:
submenuitemselectedcssclass=”MainMenu_SubMenuItemSel”

How do I change the SubMenu Icon background color when it's the active/breadcrumb item?

Do you want the icon to be different when you hover over it?  Hmm. I always turn these elements off - since I found there were some quirks that I couldn't always iron out satisfactorily without truly wanting to punch my monitor!!

Are you using ascx pages? You need alot of the css defined in the menu settings in the ascx page too.

Hi Nina,

I'm looking to control the background color of the icon (left side) part of the submenu for the current page, not the hover state. Yes, I'm using ascx pages. I can control the rest of the submenu item using submenuitemactivecssclass="myCssClass" in the ascx, but the icon portion isn't controlled by this.
I've reviewed Chapter 13 of the book, but I'm still missing it.

Do you want to have the icon showing? Or just use the space to create some padding between the menu and the left hand edge?

I have never found the classes working like they should when it comes to the active state, which is why you'll find all the menus simply don't show the icon.  I wonder if we shouldn't ask Jon Henning, the author to come in on this.

If you just want more spacing between the text and the left hand edge, you can set the icon display to none and increase the padding on the left hand side of some of the menu elements to give yourself some extra space.

If the portal admin wants to assign icons, then they would show. What I'm after is changing the background color, though.  I have two colors in the menu system, let's just say pink and teal. Remember, I'm talking about the sub-menu now. The submenu items will normally be teal background with pink text. On mouseover (hover) they change to pink background with teal text. The submenu item for the current page is also pink background with teal text, until I change pages, then that menu item background color changes.

I have this working fine, except the icon portion on the left. That's what I'm trying to control. Currently the icon background color is correct in the normal and mouseover states, but not when it's the current page.

Nina, thank you for trying to help with this. You have been a blessing to all of us in learning to skin dotNetNuke, and although we may not say it often enough, we really do appreciate it.

I wish Jon would chime in on the 'Make It Hot' posts more often (a lot of them concern the SolPart menu), but I'm sure he feels like he's answered these same questions a million times - and besides I know he's busy.  That's one reason I've become more active in answering questions here - to try and give some of you a break.

Best regards,
