Appologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place, but I couldn't find a more specific category.

We have two web servers, both running the same db/os/service packs and both with dnn installations on them (vs 4.9.1).

The sites on one server are fine, on the other server I get an error when validating it as xhtml transitional, which appears to be caused by dnn adding in a span around the div containing a module. I've installed a fresh version of 4.9.1 on each server and applied my skin to each - the site on one server validates fine, on the other I get the error.

Does anyone know what's causing this? It would appear to be a server issue, but none of us can work it out! It's driving me mad and I whilst I've found various forum postings on the web mentioning the error I've found nothing about what might be causing it.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or has encountered it before?

The problem code looks like:

<div id="dnn_ContentPane">
<a name="371"></a>
<span id="dnn_ctr371_ContentPane"> <-- this span seems to be causing the error? <!-- Start_Module_371 -->
<div id="dnn_ctr371_ModuleContent">
<div id="dnn_ctr371_HtmlModule_HtmlModule_lblContent" class="Normal">

I found the solution to this, so will post it here in case someone else runs into it:

If display container is unticked under the module settings options then dnn will add a span tag around the module - which will cause the page to fail validation if you have divs within it. If display container is ticked, no span!
