I have installed and am designing my second DNN site. I  had no problem at all uploading and using a skin package on my first site, but on this one for some strange reason, I cannot get it to recognize the skin. I followed the same procedure with this site as the first one. I keep getting "No skin files exist in folder." Over and over. I have tried different skins with the same result...each after an ostensibly successful installation.

I have tried uploading both zipped and unzipped packages. No success. I am running v.4.9.0, as I am using GoDaddy, and it is the most recent version they offer. I would greatly appreciate any help offered.

Thanks, Eli

Some skins are delivered in an zip containing documentation etc. as well, which needs to be unzipped to get the installation package.

Also DNN 5 Skins cannot be used in DNN4

Are you installing the skin using DNN's built in skin installation wizard or are you FTP'ing the skin files?  Have you tried reparsing the skin?  You might need to do that if you are FTP'ing the skin files instead of letting the Skin Install wizard do that for you automatically during the installation of the skin.  And yes, a DNN 5 skin won't install properly in DNN 4 because of the differences in the packaging.  A DNN 4 skin will, however, install in DNN 5 as a legacy skin.

Also, you can upgrade DNN to a new version on GoDaddy yourself by FTP'ing the files in the upgrade install package after unzipping the upgrade package.  I did that for a client and it worked fine as long as you read up and make sure you are saving a copy of the keys in the webconfig file that are required to decrypt user passwords, etc., though I believe after 4.6.2 DNN handles that automatically.  I would also consider a different host than GoDaddy.  When I worked with a client who had a GoDaddy hosted dnn site, we found that Godaddy was not employing the latest security protocols recommended by Microsoft and we had a lot of serious show-stopping issues when it came to installing a payment gateway because of these outdated security protocols.  Outdated security protocols were enough of a red flag to make the client ask me to find them a new host.  Godaddy did give a prorated refund of their hosting fee when we switched to 3essentials hosting.  3essentials and webhost4life are the best priced and both have excellent tech support, which was another thing Godaddy doesn't have... I would seriously consider switching to a better host, not to mention a host that is a lot more DNN friendly.

Thanks for the response. This is similar to a response I saw Nina Meyers post to someone with a similar issue, and while this resolved their issue, not such luck for me. For some strange reason, this recent install is just being stubborn. Same version of dnn, same installation procedure, but different results when trying to install skins. Weird, I know. Love DNN, but it sure has been tempermental. Thanks again for responding.

Thanks, Rick, for the response. I appreciate the advice...all of it. Yes, I imagine that upgrading to DNN 5 is probably the answer, but it is just frustrating to perform the exact same procedure and get different results. I hate to hear that about GoDaddy. I have had good experiences with them for the most part, but I do occasionally run into issues or reports of issues with others similar to what you described. I will defeinitely check into 3essentials, as I  have heard other good stuff about them as well. Thanks again for the post response.
