I'm pretty new to DNN so please forgive me in advance if this question's answer is obvious :)

I have the following piece of HTML:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="skin.css" />
    <title></title>
</head>
<body id="body">

<div id="outer_container">
    <div class="template_style">
      [LOGIN]

        <div class="logo_top">
            <div class="logo_top_left">
                <div class="logo_top_right">
                    <div class="logo_top_bg">

                    </div>
                </div>
            </div>
        </div>
        <div class="banner_bg"></div>
        <div class="middle_bg">
            <div class="middle_left_bg">
                <div class="middle_right_bg">
                    <div class="middle_content">
                        <object id="QuickMenu" codetype="dotnetnuke/server" codebase="CONTENTPANE">
                        </object>
                        <!--[CONTENTPANE]-->
                    </div>
                </div>
            </div>
       </div>
       <div class="main_menu">
            <div class="main_menu_left_bg">
                <div class="main_menu_right_bg">
                    <div class="main_menu_bg">
                        [LINKS]
                    </div>
                </div>
            </div>
       </div>
       <div>
            [CONTENTPANE]
       </div>
    </div>
</div>
</body>
</html>

I originally had the commented out '[CONTENTPANE]'(green) in the HTML and the skin worked fine. Then I moved it to the bottom indicated in red and now the compiler gives me this error:

Error: Skin Editor is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Skins.EditSkins.ShowSkins() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Skins.EditSkins.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace

I'm can't understand how does this throw a compile error due to moving what is essentially  a module place holder, around?

Can anyone explain to me why this is ?

Did you try removing the green part and not uncommenting it?
