Hi,

I am a web designer with considerable experience. I produce fully compliant xhtml and css sites.

I have a client who wants me to design a new layout for him.

Question is: if I've designed the layout with pure css and xhtml, and the design passes w3c validation tests, can I import it directly in to DNN V4 (which my client is currently using and doesn't want to update yet) as a skin.

What issues do I need to consider.

Thanks

I'd like to know as well! I too have a layout already designed.

This is what is currently keeping me from aquiring DNN.

No you will have to change your files (add tokens) so DNN can use it as a skin.

Download the documentation from the download page and check the pdf on skinning.
It's for DNN 4, but the basics are still the same.

One of the top posts of this forum explains the changes for DNN 5

As Timo stated, you will still have to swap out the tokens for things like the Navigation Menu, Login, and insert the content panes. If you are wanting to keep completely valid, you will probably want to look into using DNN5 as the new DNNNav 2.0 puts out much more valid code and IMO is more easy to style (once you wrap your head around the new selector system).

You should also aim to use a XHTML 1.0 Transitional Doctype, I've found it to be the easiest to get DNN to validate with however when you start adding 3rd party modules, validation can become more and more of a headache.

Good Luck!
