I need to have both a horizontal menu and a verticle menu.  The Horizontal Menu will be for the main website pages.  I want to use the verticle for outside resource Links.  I really don't want to use the links modual to do this.

I know I can put both  menu on a skin and I have bought the snapsis menu.   I went though a tutorial on it but it appears the two menus would be copies.  Is this correct?  Can't I add a page to the main horizontal menu with out it showing up on the other one?

Any sample code to do this would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Doug,

You can have the two menus showing within the same skin, however they do need to be linked, i.e. both menus are generated from the same menu structure.

You can set them up so that the horizontal menu shows the top level navigation and the vertical menu shows sub navigation, but this means that as you navigate the top level, the vertical menu items will change depending on where the sub nav links are within the overall menu structure.

Is there a specific reason that you don't want to use the links module? as this would appear to be the most straight forward and managable option.

Rick.

I guess I need to figure out the links modual.  I want to be able to insert it with all the links I have created on all pages and if I update it, it will show the updates on all pages.  How can you do that?

I guess that the menu would allow a better look then the links modual

If you are just building a list of links (to external pages) you can also just use the text/html module.  It would allow you to format the links the way you want.  Also, you can just add the same module to all pages where you want it and whenever you edit it the changes will show up every where.  The text / html module can be used like the swiss army kniife of DNN :)

Doug,

The appearance of the links module is controlled in part by CSS, so you should be able to get it to look how you want with some creative CSS, although it is contained within a table so you might not be able to achieve your desired layout without some tweaking of the code as well..

As Robert pointed out, you could use a text/html module for the list, this would generate a symantic unordered list of links, and this you could then style with CSS to look exactly how you want with CSS.

Rick.
