Hi all. I'm planning to create a text only version of my website, the only problem is I'm not sure how best to go about implementing it. My first thought was to create a new skin, but I'm not sure how to allow users to change the skin in use from a link or in some other easy manner. My next thought was to create a separate stylesheet for the text only version, but I have customised some skin objects on my current skin in my skin.xml file and I'd like to have the menu be in a different orientation in the text only version.

Any help or ideas on the best way to implement this?

Thanks

Hi, although I've never implemented a text-only version of a DNN site, here's my suggestion:

  • create a new skin, the plain one to be used in text only pages
  • create a "text version" link in your pages
  • That link will link to the same page but with this parameter at the end:
    ?SkinSrc=[G]Skins%2fXXX%2fdefault
where XXX is your plain skin's name

This solution has a drawback, when you change to a new page you are back to the rich version of the site again.
Maybe someone else can provide further ideas.
My best,

I would use the stylesheet widget for this.

I have created a very basic example using minimal extropy:
