Hello,

I have installed DNN on my hosting account and am using the default DNN skin. My problem is that I can't figure out how to put a container on a page. I am using minimal extropy and I have selected "apply" within the Skins section of the Admin account, but I have not been able to get beyond this point. Are containers modules? Should they be on the module list? How do I insert a container in a page?

Thanks for any help that you can offer.

Steve

Steve,

Welcome to the DNN forums.

The containers are "wrappers" for the modules you add to your pages. When you add modules, their containers are defined at various levels.

  • Site wide - The default settings are applied in the Site Settings, this container becomes the default for the entire site.
  • Page level - On each of the page settings you can specify the container skin to be applied to all modules on that page. This setting overrides the container defined in the Site Settings.
  • Module level - For each module you can also specify a container skin which overrides all other container settings, page level or site wide.

In short the containers add additional HTML around the modules allowing designers and devlopers to place the title, visibility and additional module specific tokens where they like. To see the container skins in action, add a module to any page.

Regards,

Rick.

Rick, Thanks for your reply. It is now clear how the containers work. You saved me a lot of frustration. Steve
