Hi All,

I am new to Dotnet Nuke.I need o develop a skin template for a DNN website.

Now my problem is that the website design has a set of links(Utility links) at the top of the page, which is not coming under the menu nor the link objects. How am i supposed to achieve this while designing the new skin template?.

There is a link module to which i can add the links, which could be placed in any of the panes. So how am i supposed to place this at the top of the page?.Please give me suggestions on this.

Thanks,

Balu.

Balu,

Welcome to the Dotnetnuke forum, and to Dotnetnuke as a CMS.

Regarding your question, it sounds to me like you pretty much have it answered already. There are 2 options really:

1. Add the links into the skin as html elements. If you're building the skin as an HTML file first just add the links as you would normaly. Don't remove these when you add the DNN tokens and the links will appear as part of the skin. If you want to make chnages to these, you'll then need to either make changes to the .ascx file created when the skin pack was parsed, or make the changes in the HTML files, and re-upload the skin pack.

2. Create a pane where the links are positioned, and use the links module or a HTML module to add the links, and make sure this is set to display on all pages within the module settings. The advantage of this is they become editable within DNN.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Rick.

Balu,

You're welcome, I'm glad the information was useful and that you're enjoying DNN. It is a great CMS and when you really get into the skinning architecture and learn more about it relates to the final layout it opens up a lot of options within your designs.

Regards,

Rick.

Hi

Another option would be to use the ddrmenu from dnngarden.com. you can then use the includenodes and excludenodes option to make 2 different menus without extra work . Make tabs as you normally d and then in the skin

<ddr:menu excudenodes="utillitytabname"   - this owuld be your normal menu without the utillity link

<ddr:menu includenodes="utillitytabname"  - this would be your top utillity links
