I purchased a skin for my website and unzipped the files but now I don't know what to do next.  I've tried to upload a few of the files contained in the zip file but DNN is telling me that the file extension is invalid.  is there a good step by step for applying a new skin for the first timer out there?

DNN 5.2 and above:  login as superuser ("Host"), go to Extensions in HOST menu, make sure to be in edit mode.

Select "install extension wizard" from action menu and follow the steps to upload the zip package.

Mike,

The method for installing a skin on DNN4 varies slightly to that for DNN5 so I'll need to go through both (they are quire similar as you'll see)

in DNN4 you can install a skin as admin or host.

  • then look for the skins option under host or admin (by uploading to a host the skin is available on all portals from that DNN install, uploading as an admin makes it available only to the current portal)
  • click on upload a new skin from within the skin page (it's going to be available either as a text link at the bottom of the page, or through the blue triangle dropdown)
  • navigate to the .zip file
  • Upload
  • Dotnetnuke will parse the skin .zip file and extract all the files to create the skin for you to use

In DNN 5 you can only upload a skin when you're logged in as a host (when you're logged in you can then upload through either the host or admin options)

  • Under host/admin look for the extensions option (depending on which option you upload through will determine where the skin is available just like above)
  • From the blue arrow dropdown select Install Extension Wizard
  • Follow the steps for installing the skin (again you will be installing the complete .zip skin package)

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Rick.
