Few questions about the menu bar

1) The first item is always selected on the menu bar. How can i remove this setting?
2)I am customizing MinimalExtropy skin to fit my requirements. I have noticed that the menu bar is placed on top of an image. If I change in CSS background-color for main menu the color is applied only till the end of last menu item and the below image is shown in the remaining line. Can i apply menu background color for the entire line and therefore cover the below image completely? I have tried removing the images (menu_bg,menu_left,menu_right) but then it raises issue with padding.

1. Go to the settings of your home page and uncheck "Show in Menu"
2. You should replace all three images or change the CSS: (menu_bg,menu_left,menu_right)
