I have been experimenting with DNNnav menu, and horizontal menus in particular.  It seems impossible to control the placement of the horizontal tabs.  If you cursor over the admin or host links, the long submenu items extend right off the page into neverland.

Here is what I am hoping to achieve, if possible... look at the menu and the way the submenu appears above the menu in nice controlled layout:

The issue you mention is mostly  caused by the use of absolute positioning, NAV has some issues with that.
The menu in the example is in flash, a menu with sub menus above is not easy in HTML and thus also not in DNN.
I would not use NAV as a startingpoint but another menu component, like the DDR menu or http://dnntemplatedmenu.codeplex.com/

I agree with Timo on DNN-Nav, but disagree on it not being possible to do that layout. If you rendered the menu as an unordered list, this should be doable - but you really, really need to know your CSS.

Jon, IMO the problem with NAV as an UL is that it does not render a clean UL menu as all the JS for the drop downs is still used.
That's why I wouldn't use NAV for this...

I have implemented the DNN Templated menu and and am still learning how to customize.  It could be acceptable for the menu to still drop down, provided I could get it to left-align with the left most edge of the entire menu container instead of left align with the left edge of the menu item hovered upon.  Timo are you saying there isn't really a simple way to do any kind of custom positioning of that submenu?  I am all about simple!  :)
