Hello all,

I've got a couple of beginner questions that I'm struggling with.

I am following along The Accidental Geek's skin tutorial (http://blog.theaccidentalgeek.com/pos...) and am stuck in Part 2.

A)  How do I get DNN to recognize that my skin has changed/updated?  I am writing my changes directly to the Portals\Skins\XYZ folder where my skin is being stored.  I have gone into the Skins page under the admin menu and "parsed" the file again, but there seems to be no luck.

B)  The blog post talks about applying a skin to a page by using the page settings, advanced settings section but I cannot find the menu option to apply a skin to a page anywhere. What am I missing about that process?

Thanks,

-Ben

If you create an HTML skin Admin > Skins, select the skin and click the parse link, should do it
That parses the HTML file to a new ASCX file.
For an ASCX skin you don't have to do anything.

To answer B, if you have a control panel with tabs (ribbon bar), you select the page and click the edit icon on the left, which takes you to the page settings

Timo, Thanks for the quick reply! Re-parsing the file is what I was doing, so I suspect that my issue lies elsewhere. I am trying to attach a CSS file to my skin and it doesn't appear to be affecting my layout. Is there something special I need to be doing to attach CSS to my skin file? Also, thanks for the page-settings pointer. I was using the "settings" icon in the lower-right hand side of the page, which links to different settings. -Ben

Yes, DNN does not see a CSS file you add to an existing skin unless you restart DNN.
Goto Host > Host Setttings and restart with the link at the bottom of the page
