I'm confused.  I'm using the User.ascx control in one of my skins, and once a person logs in we see something like this:

Some Person (17)

What is the (17) all about?  Clicking on their name takes you to a page that says My Profile with a generic photo box and the users name.  You then have to click on Edit Profile to actually make any changes.  I don't see any reference to 17 on that page.  What does that represent?  Some sort of system messages?  How does the user view them?

Thanks!

My guess is that it is the "UserId" value from the table.

In the url, do you see a querystring value that is userid/17 in the URL?

Thanks for the update Mitchel.

After your post I looked, and sure enough -- that's not it.

While hovering over the item on my account, however, I got this pop-up:

Going to the Profile Page just shows basic info.    There is no place to view any messages.

There must be a configuration or skin object I'm missing.  Can anyone shed some light?

It's either what Mitchel says, or depending on what you're looking at, it could be messages in your user profile, or the user profile view for a custom/3rd party module.  DNN sites are so unique these days, it's sometimes difficult to know without seeing your site.  :)

The message is being displayed by the standard DNN User.ascx control though.  Shouldn't that mean it's DNN itself that's generating these messages?

Here's the relevant code in the skin:

1.<%@ Register TagPrefix="dnn" TagName="USER" Src="~/Admin/Skins/User.ascx" %>
2.
3.<dnn:USER runat="server" id="dnnUSER" />
