I currently have DNN loaded along with a brand spanking new skin, however, since it is a purchased skin from Snowcovered, I wanted the functionality of the skin more so than the graphic rendering.  So I would like to change some aspects of the skin by altering source code.  This is a major problem for me since I haven't worked in web page development for a couple years and have only worked with individual page XML and HTML files in the past .  I have tried Firebug, but altering the source code through that isn't permanent and Greasemonkey is useless when I can't locate the HTML files within the DNN folder on my computer.  I know the folder system where all the website information is stored and have tinkered with panels and modules, I am just not sure what file I am looking for.  Any help would be appreciated.

i'd recommend you take a look at the skin's page on the wiki http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/tabid/1409/Page/Skins/Default.aspx , and consider watching the basic skinning video http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/VideoLibrary/Viewer/TabId/1613/VideoId/14/Basic-DotNetNuke-Skinning.aspx , they will both give you an idea how skins work. However in answer to your question, you'll be looking into the portals folder, then whatever portal you're on (the first portal is 0) then the skin and containers folders.

Sounds simple but I think the real problem is all the changes that I make like adding pages, modules, panels to the website are not being copied in code to the DNN website folder.  So is there a way to update the files on my computer to reflect the code from the website?  Or should I be looking in my IIS manager to change that type of information instead of looking at my folder under my C drive?

please note, that pages added to your site with modules and content are not stored in the file system but in the database.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for responding in a timely manner.  I am currently using SQLEXP 08 and I believe its a file based system.  Does that change my philosophy at all?  This is really frustrating because coding websites are easy and the file system is kicking my proverbial butt.

Thanks,
Mitchell
