Hi all--

I'm a bit of a DNN novice, learning as I go here. I understand that legacy skins do not have a skin manifest, and that new skins for DNN v.5 are packaged differently, with a skin manifest.

My question is - what is the importance of a skin manifest, and how does it affect me as a user not to have one?

We upgraded to v. 5 at the beginning of the year, but our skins are from 2009, so I get the message: "This is a legacy skin" on the skins page. Does it matter one way or the other?

Thanks - hope my question makes sense.

The major advantage is that skins can have a version number now.
Which makes managing skins a lot easier (especially if you work with skin with multiple people)
But to be honest most of the installs we upgraded to DNN 5 also still have DNN 4 skins.

Ultimately - the skin manifest is only really needed if you plan on re-install the skin - or re-parse the skin.  If you already have a parsed skin - or a skin that is native ascx - then really dont loose anything at all.
