I am experimenting with DNN 6.01 and its Dark Knight skin.

I notice there are several powerful features of the skin, such as JQuery sliders etc.

I thought that the whole purpose of skinning was that skins could easily be interchanged.  In the "old days" if you did not like DNN_Green you could load a variety of other skins that would do the job.

Surely if you start to use some of the powerful features of the Dark Knight skin, you will by tying yourself to that skin, and cannot easily change.  Is such function not better in a module where it can work with ANY skin?

Or am I misunderstanding something?

Skins are to change the display of the page and there content this can include sliders and more. Even sliders don't fit all skins, the need to be different sized have other navigation elements because otherwise they just don't look good

I don't know if the dark knight skin has it but for skins there are skin widgets , take a look here :
http://dnnwidgets.com/Widgets

skin widgets are like tiny front end modules for skins 9 there are no admin modules the only display or modify the html code so the can be used in any module that supports html and you don't need to add yet another module with yet another admin that you may never use again.

This will work with any skin you just might need to change some css to make it work with yours.

Skins get more powerful because more is demanded so we deliver. And the problem with module its one size should fit all or most. But we don't want that !!

Skins are to make a portal look unique Not just in front-end design but also how it looks interacts and behaves.

For Instance
If you have a very nice slider that looks great in your smooth rounded out skins exactly in your color combination with your image and ui elements in wil look very out of place in a very standard skin with all straight elements.

just my 2 cents

I'm not convinced by your answer that this is the right way to go.  It seems that if you choose one of these new "superskins", and use their jQuery functions, you are really choosing a skin for life, since it will be too difficult to change it in the future.

That is maybe what some users want, but finding yourself locked into one particular skin seems to me regrettable.

Just MY 2 cents worth...
