I have a JQuery slideshow of images going on in my skin. However, I want to change it so it will show the latest news articles of the site. Maybe integrating it with DNN Article so it shows the articles through it's UI instead of DNN Articles. Or the most recent HTML modules on some page.

As it is right now, the JQuery will display one by one whatever is in this one <div> tag. So, all I need is to figure out a tag that displays either the latest articles in the DNN module or the latest HTML modules on some page.

Well - I would guess that if one of the subtags of that div happened to be a Pane, then the jquery would display the pane.  If it's a pane then it can contain a DNN module.

QED?

I'm not sure if that would work with what we want. Don't think editors want to traverse and update that particular article over and over again, getting rid of the oldest and then adding the newest.

I was thinking that in the pane you would put a DNN module capable of displaying the latest articles.

If you don't have such a module that's a separate problem.
