Hello, how can I modify a skin to get a new layout option?
I have done the following but getting an error message - is this in principle the right approach?

1. copy / rename e.g portal.ascx file into portal1.ascx
2. modify the portal1.ascx file
3. copy/remane e.g portal.xml file into portal1.xml
4. modify the .dnn or .manifest file to include the files above

Did I miss anything?

Many thanks for your help.

It's been a while since I've done this, but I believe you can just edit the .ascx file and get it to your liking. You can do this with a test page, and set the page skin to the skin you're working on, then make your changes and just refresh the page.

If you're looking to package it up for reuse then you can do that by going to Host > Extensions > Skins, then edit skin and click the "create package" button. That will build the manifest files and everything for you.
