I am very new to this and in fact host/admin a site given to use (child site?). I uploaded the Synapse skin package as well as one other. The "other" skin appears in my skin menu and there are files in the folder (ie you can view the thumbnails and choose one). However, when I choose the Synapse skin from the drop menu nothing appears in the container except; "No Skin Files Exist in Folder". 

We are using version 4.09. Any ideas?

I am not familar with that skin, but could it be that that Skin is an DNN 5 or 6 Skin ?  The manifiest files of an Skin is not down compatible - that means you can not install an Skin that is created for DNN 5 on an DNN 4 instance.
