I am just beginning to create a website that I want to make a resource for fire instructors.  A place they can download file, share training drill and more.

Can some of you please critique what I have so far and what you would change or add to it.

I would suggest to redesign color contrast - people with viewing handicaps might have problems to read the text (especially module titles and date) and black-on-white of news is very dominating.

Try to open foreign links in new window.

Search is difficult to find, users usually expect a search box at the top of a page (e.g. beneath the date) - so they don't need to scroll.

I like that current skin- it looks smokey... kinda befitting the audience.

It seems that the minimum functionality you outlined is more than met with that site, stark even as it is. Maybe add a forum, or some way for the community to interact?

I noticed that clicking on the site logo at the top of the page takes the user to a blank page.

Good luck with the site.
