I need some help with parsing skin files. I have tried to install skin files by uploading it to our DotNetNuke server that we host and it fails to parse the HTML and CSS files. It does not create ASCX files. As a test I used the MinimalExtropy skin. I deleted the ASCX files and it would not parse them and create new ones. I tried this on both a version 5 and 6 DotNetNuke install on that server. But I tried it on a local test server and the same exact skin worked fine. Here is what I got on the one that failed…

default skin might be a bad sample, because a list of associated files is stored by the installer and may get confused, if you just delete .aspx file. you should modify folder name and create a custom package

Are there any errors in the eventlog?
Does DNN have write access to the location of the skins?
(Sometimes this is limited as a security measure)

Thanks for your response guys. I did try other skin packages. I created some very simple ones using DotNetNuke Skinning 101 by Joe Brinkman and also Professional DotNetNuke 5 book by Shaun Walker, etc... All of them did the same thing when parsed. Also I tried the exact same skin (a copy of MinimalExtropy) on a local test server and it worked fine (so the skin doesn't seem to be the issue. Is that the right assuption?).

There were no errors generated in the event log. I thought it was security as well but I set security to Everyone Full Control just to see but no change. The ASP.NET Identity is set to NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE which has Modify permissions. Is this the correct setting?

Windows 2003 Server - IIS 6.0 - Tried it on DNN 6.2.4 and DNN 5.6.3
