Thanks for your explanations Richard.
I downloaded the DDRmenu templates from codeplex and tried the different options (mega, superfish, treview etc) on my DNN menu so I now know how to set the menu option in my skin file. I just need to look at how you can set up the layout
Are there any sample megamenu packages available that have some advanced layouts? (jump starting). For example on other systems I have seen menus where you can add all manner of things in the child menus icluding html, modules, facebook stuff. product pics etc. I cant imagine how this can be done just from xml and css

I understand what you say about the DDRMenu module.
However, It is a common scenario to have a sub menu on some pages that only deal with a subset of pages.
How can I set this sort of menu up. If one of our clients is adding new pages and wants to set up a sub menu. I cannot expect them to delve into technical code so is there is a way to do this in the control panel?, if not how do we achive this?

 I'm sure there are - I don't know where.

DNN's basic idea is that the skin controls the overall appearance of the page.  So if some pages look different (add a submenu, prune the main manu) then they use a different skin - even if that skin looks very similar to the main one.

DDR certainly has the configuration settings to create a submenu (Ie display pages from where I am down) and prune the main menu (only display pages down to my level.

So when your client adds a page, he/she needs to choose the right skin for it.

Best wishes,

@Stuart

I made the mega menu template in the codeplex package.  I have another on on the store ( all commented out )

I also have a 3 piece article series on dnnhero.com about templating the ddrmenu

Ok, I have now implemented a basic mega menu with 3 columns using DDR menu. By using the  page management tool  in admin:  under my Parent  level 0 menu I have:

  • 3 child pages that act as the column headers
  • and under these columns I assigned the various sub pages for each section

I take it this is the correct way to create multi columns of links? if so then creating these menus using page managment will not be too difficult for our content editors to understand but I would like to expand the menu if possible:

  • I would really like to add a small description under each or some of the links in a column, this is common with menus of this type but Is this possible with DDR Menu and how / where??
  • Can images also be used and again how / where

Probaly asking for the impossible here! but I just know that some of our stakeholders will ask to have some of the menus with a normal single dropdown menu? can some tabs be set up not use the megamenu.
