Thanks to you guys, I have got my head around module development and skinning . Now I am looking at how to change the built in DDRMenu to a megamenu style.
As the menu is already installed in DNN7 I really need to understand how DDRMenu actually works in DNN 7 and then how I can make a particular skin say Gravity, Tidy, Multifunctional or similar go from its default menu style to a mega menu style.
For e.g.
Any new skin installed uses the DDRMenu.
How do I change this to a megamenu (and any sample CSS would be nice).

P.s
I notice that there is a DDRMenu module available as a drag and drop option into a pane of a page.
Can I use this to create a vertical menu in a left or right pane.
How do I then configure it and add links to it.
Can I use the database as a source for creating links (for e,g in Joomla, drupal etc I can link to articles or categories without manual editing).

Look in the default DarkKnight skinpackage. There are multiple skins in there, some of them use the megamenu style.

Take a look at how the DDRMenu is configured in one of them.

I am using DNN7 and as such only have Darknghts mobile skin.
DNN Documentation is mostly based around older versions of DNN and such is not really helpful.

I Managed to download an older version DNN 6 so can have a look later at how it is configured but this seems a very heavy way to teach new users how to use a menu. If you have no technical skill you would really really struggle.
Surely someone has looked at an online configuration tool similar to how other CMS configure their menus. If a user did not have physical access to the server how the hell would they sort this???

Still would not mind a pointer as to how to drop a new DDR menu module on a page and add some links to it.

The menu in DNN does not really work like that.

The basic idea is that the site is stored internally as an unstructured heap of pages.  Each page has an internal number that the user usually never cares about.

It's the menuing system that places structure on these by grouping the pages into an organization that makes sense to the site owner.  So you don't manually add links to the menu.  You add a page to the site and tick the box that says it appears in the menu (that's the default) then the page automatically appears in the menu.  On the Admin | Pages page, you can move pages about to manage the grouping.

There are loads of extra details, you can have a menu that displays only some levels of the site structure for example, and the whole system is completely programmable.  You can change every aspect of it if you have enough time and patience.

You create a skin package and upload/install it to the DNN instance (needs host access to the site).  Then configure the site to use it (requires admin access)

Physical access/operating system level access is not essential but it can make stuff easier.
