Hi,

I know there are many installable modules available for doing image sliders / carousels but I need to add one in the skin header rather than in the content as a module.

I'm guess there are many jQuery or js examples but I'm struggling to find an example of how to implement one inside a skin, how to include/load the necessary code in the ascx, etc without confilicing with the normal DNN goings on.

I'm on DNN 6. Many thanks for any pointers

Rob

The simplest answer is don't do that.

Add a pane to the skin where you want the carousel

Add carousel to new pane, display on all pages.

Done.

The only issue I see is if you have a lot of people who can edit pages and one of them decides they want to put somthing in that pane.

You surely can do it and it is very easy.
Just put the call for css and js at the top of the skin (I put it after the register calls)
and put the jquery code at the bottom (just to make sure the order is correct but usually it doesn't matter)
You should put the HTML where ever you want in the layout.

The reason this method is not recommended is mainly because it forces you to tweak the skin code whenever you want to change the content, so If you can, you should put all js calls, css calls, jquery code and html in a text module. Just make sure you move to html display in the editor.
(you'll have to define the "remove scripts" filter as none active in the editor config)

Guys, thanks for your help. I tried adding a pane but had a few problems (and didnt really want users adding stuff in there) so in the end, using this tutorial

http://paulmason.name/item/simple-jqu...

I slapped in a div, jquery script and css as above and it all works great

 Thanks

Rob
