I support a DNN 5.6.3 site, www.oaklandsymphonychorus.org.  Recently I had to install a new SSL certificate for it; we have a set of pages for site members that require login.  When testing the new cert (which works), I noticed that the modules on the "members only" page - the landing page for member login - display no content.  We have a "welcome module" (text/HTML), an Announcements module, a Links module, and a "chorus photos" module (Gallery module).  All these displayed content the last time I logged in (before my vacation).  It's now gone.

Not only do they not display the content, the Edit Content option is missing from the module menu tab.  The module settings all look as they should.   I am in Edit mode, I am not in View mode; I checked that right away.  What could be causing this and what can I do??

very odd - I would recommend you check the eventviewer to see if anything useful is logged as module load exceptions are not shown to non-logged in users (as this information could be useful to potential hackers) . On a related tangemt (and with my security hat on) I'd recommend you upgrade to a more recent version

I think I have yet another problem with my hosting provider.  I'm seeing General Exception errors that say:

InnerException: Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\vhosts\oaklandsymphonychorus.org\httpdocs\Portals\0\Cache\Pages\34_ACABA51644A302FBB325E30E7931BAF8.data.resources' is denied.

There were similar messages relating to the Gallery module.  I seem to get different errors depending whether I log in as my own ID (a mere administrator) or as superuser; but I'm getting "access is denied" errors both ways.

You're quite right about the upgrade, of course, but I'm a volunteer and I can't always get to things when I want; a DNN upgrade is a major project.  I'm also being told that the entire website may be rebuilt into a larger web site for our parent organization (and not in DNN, because nobody wants to learn it; they're talking Joomla).  So I'm holding off upgrading until I find out what's going on.

that type of error typically occurs because of invalid windows permissions - cached content is controlled by creating cache files to allow for cache to be expired/refreshed. These small files are created in the cache folder(s) under each portal, and this type of error occurs when the website user (i.e. the user tied to the application pool such as networkuser) only has read/write permissions and not delete (so cannot delete the cache files entries, meaning cache can fail and load old or even no content). Please check that you have applied read, write and modify permissions to the portals folder and set it to propagate to all subfolders and that should resolve this

And you're quite right, that's what it was. I opened a ticket with them, showing the error message, and they fixed the problem within an hour. Thanks for your guidance; I should have known to look there but I'm fighting a nasty cold...
