Hi everyone,

I've been given a requirement where by a client really would like this particular flash skin but also have the benefit of the CMS ability of DNN.

The flash skin is in the form of a radio and takes up the top half of the browser window. It has volume controls and plays background music. What I can't work out is how I can have DNN doing page loads and post backs without affecting the continuity of the music in the flash component. I can see that Frames might be of help but is it possible to house a dnn completely inside a frame? Or is something that allows for partial page reloading like AJAX the way to go?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Adam.

There is no reason why you couldn't put the DNN part in a frame.
In fact this is what I always use if a client already had a site and I created a new one in DNN.
I put an index.htm(l) file on the old server with a frame, loading the new page on the new server, until everyting moves from the old to the new ISP.

As much as I hate to say it, when it comes to keeping Flash playing continuously... Frames have been the only solid workaround I've found. I haven't tooled around enough with AJAX to know how DNN would react to such an environment, so it's only an assumption when I say "probably badly".

Also, keep in mind that if your client likes the flash part of a skin, they usually also like the menu animations, which can't be integrated into DNN's nav menu easily (at least from my experiments).

Excuse my belated reply - thanks guys for your answers.

I ended up doing the frames method. You can see it at http://www.brandmusic.com.au

I wrote a custom module to show off my clients work. Select Examples from the Brand Music menu. You can see that the top flash can control play back and volume of whatever was selected in the DNN frame.

Of course there are all those pesky issues around new menu items having to be coded in flash . . blah blah blah

regards,

Adam.

Check my site at www.djkila.com.

Although theres no frame on the Mp3 player on the bottom it could easily be put in one.  Currently however most of the site navigation is contained in the Flash system so theres not much opportunity for DNN to screw up the music playing..
