Sebastian,

What I did do was start with some pages, including all Admin selections.  Up until I add pages with Catalook modules on them with the exclusion of the Store page, the template doesn't break.

If I get you the XML right  up to and including the first of any tab selections in the Advanced Configuration that breaks the template, can we review it together or could you look it over?

Thanks!

Mike Durthaler

Mike,
I am not sure a Review makes sense without having the real template.
Please make sure, you are not using any special characters in page and module names ( including "<" ">" """ etc.), which might break XML validity.
if you are creating the template manually, I'd start with empty pages, to see, whether it is caused by page names

Sebastian,

The template is being made with Export Site Template via Host Site Management.  When I say "manually" made I should be saying I'm using Advanced Configuration.  Sorry.

More info: We have a template from 7 August that does work.  All I did was export another template now that we've refined our skin and module placement on Portal 0.

The new template will run without breaking with these pages selected in Advanced Configuration:

Home
Store
About Us
Make a Difference
The Better Choice
Contact Us
Admin

I can selectively choose admin pages, we're fine.  But if I add all the other pages the old template was using beyond Admin, we crash.

So, I'm going to add ONLY the one page that crashes then look at its XML.  If I don't find anything obvious I will post it with the whole template.

Thanks,

Mike

Accepted Answer
it sounds if either any of the pages or modules does contaim an invalid Name or Settings value, which is not accepted by the template Import.

I finally did get a full error message.  In the process of hacking out parts of the <tabs> section to see what if anything changes I got this:

Error parsing Website TemplatePage Exists in portal: 3, path: , culture: at DotNetNuke.Entities.Tabs.TabController.ValidateTabPath(TabInfo tab) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Tabs.TabController.AddTabInternal(TabInfo tab, Int32 afterTabId, Int32 beforeTabId, Boolean includeAllTabsModules) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Tabs.TabController.AddTab(TabInfo objTab, Boolean includeAllTabsModules) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Tabs.TabController.DeserializeTab(XmlNode tabNode, TabInfo tab, Hashtable tabs, Int32 portalId, Boolean isAdminTemplate, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Hashtable modules) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.ParseTab(XmlNode nodeTab, Int32 PortalId, Boolean IsAdminTemplate, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Hashtable& hModules, Hashtable& hTabs, Boolean isNewPortal) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.ParseTabs(XmlNode nodeTabs, Int32 PortalId, Boolean IsAdminTemplate, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Boolean IsNewPortal) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.ParseTemplate(Int32 PortalId, String TemplatePath, String TemplateFile, Int32 AdministratorId, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Boolean IsNewPortal, LocaleCollection& localeCollection) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.CreatePortal(String portalName, UserInfo adminUser, String description, String keyWords, PortalTemplateInfo template, String homeDirectory, String portalAlias, String serverPath, String childPath, Boolean isChildPortal)

It doesn't tell me a whole lot but for what it's worth there you go.
