FYI: I'm currently using DNN 7.3. I got it, and it turns out that it's way easier then the impression I was given. In my skin directory (in my case, Generic 1.0) there were 3 files, contact.aspx, index.aspx and inner.aspx and their corresponding xml files. All I had to do was copy one set (ie, index.aspx and index.doctype.xml) and rename them. In this case, I went with inner-nomenu (Clever, right?) and removed a few lines: <%@ Register TagPrefix="dnn" TagName="MENU" src="~/DesktopModules/DDRMenu/Menu.ascx" %>   and some related stuff in a section beginning with <!--menu-->. One quick look through these files and you should see what I'm talking about. I hope this information is useful to those of you reading this in the future.

You could also do something similar by just adding CSS to hide the menu or using page tags to alter how the menu is rendered.  Both of those options are more complex than just creating a custom page layout, but they are more flexible in cases where it is not as simple as "showing/hiding" the menu.  I have a blog on this from a few years ago which covers Advanced Menu Design with the DDR Menu.
