Hello,

i'm a very beginner to the dotNetNuke, i have a few questions about skinning:

1. Is there a program/dreamweaver extension/etc that creates skin by images/flash I like, without touching the code?

2. Suppose I create a new skin by code: how do I upload it?

3. What is the best way for a beginner to skin easily ? What is the best manual to read?

I'm also new to ASP .Net (but definitly not new to ASP) - but I'm a quick learner..

Thanks in advance.

  1. http://forums.asp.net/thread/982211.aspx
  2. zip it and use the upload feature in host settings, portal settings or skins menu item.
  3. start with skinning guide included with documentation pack (available from dnn download page), another source is the Polyduck Guide. AFAIR there are also videos at DNNCreative.

Cheers from Germany,

1) If you don't want to even see code, I'd stay away from Dreamweaver, IMHO it's very coder-oriented but you wind up with the best results.

2) When I start a skin from scratch, I draw it in Photoshop, then I build the page structure in Dreamweaver using hand sliced images (I don't actually use the Slice tool, just a bunch of guidelines and Copy-Merged routines). I start with 3 pages, usually:  (customer_initials)_skin.html   (customer_initials)_skin.xml   and    (customer_initials)_skin.css. Once the tables are arranged (I don't have the patience for CSS with DNN yet) I insert all the tokens into their respective areas and add their XML nodes in the XML file. Then I just zip the file and upload it, and tweak the CSS on the live site.

3) I learned by taking apart the default skins myself and asking ALOT of questions.
