Hey

I've installed DotNetNuke Starter Kit (4.3.4) together with visual web developer 2005 express on my development computer

So now I'm able to create DotNetNuke portals using vwd.

But this is as I mention on my development computer with vwd. But what if I have a client which have asked me to create a DotNetNuke site for them. They of course want to the portal customized (layout designed by a advertisment ageny). Here I see 2 options for doing this:

a)
Create the DotNetNuke portal (Starter Kit) using my development computer and when I've finished (customized it) the portal then deploy the portal from vwd (following the rutines in vwd for deploying portals). I then deploy it to client's server.

b)
First I install DotNetNuke Install (this is NOT the Starter Kit) on my client server. Then I create a DotNetNuke portal (using the Starter Kit) on my development computer. At my development computer I create templates and skins etc required by the design. When I've done creating templates and skins I copy my templates & skins onto client server.

These are the deployment techniques (a or b) I see for DotNetNuke portals. I guess none of my deploy technigues are any good. Please guide me to correct way of doing this.

I think the second choice is the better of the two, but really, unless you're changing the source code there's no need even to install DNN at all on your development machine.  We usually just work directly off of the server, except that we edit files, and create graphics, locally.  Then we transfer the skins, graphics etc.
