Hi all

I have looked through these forums but have been unable to find anything that has helped me so far. I am trying to update my site and have designed a new skin style. Now the problem is I know how I want it to look, but am unsure how to do it.

The container skill In want to design is not a simple rectangle banner, is has 2 different sizes parts to is and curvs, I also want some partos of it to be transparent. This is a little tricky to describe so I did some looking and found a site that has done something similar, LINKY. As you can see their containers curve and the background can be seen where the container curves away. Also the container is not a simple design of striaght lines (Like mine is)

can anyone tell me how I would to this, I am using DNN 4.3.5.

Cheers

DNN really doesn't come into designing a container like this, it's done in your graphics program.  All images are rectangular, just that some parts are transparent.  Creating a transparent GIF isn't really sometheing that can be described in a forum post, even if it was on topic.  Check for help with your graphics program or use Google to find tutorials.

The problem isn't in the creating of the transpartent gif's that's the easy part. The part I can't get working is actually creating the containers CSS file to display it properly.

My site using the autoscaling so it's not always a fixed width continer. So I can't create a 1 size static header. I then throught of creating the entire container and cutting it up, then using a table to load the parts of the image in to the table, but I don't know if this is the correct way to do it.

I have got some free DNN 1 skins that use a HTML table to display the dontainer but they dont seem to work properly in DNN4. So as you can see my problem is not in creating the garphincs but how to write the CSS file to disply my graphics properly. I hope that this is on topic for Skinning.

I've found the best method to be designing the graphics, then assembling an HTML template and writing a style sheet. At *that* point I start working in the DNN tokens, styles, etc.

My advice would be to get a good CSS reference. You can also download one of the many many free skins out there and take them apart. Look at their style.css files, open the HTML files in your web editor, and see how they tick.

It's actually not too much different than designing for static websites, you just add a little DNN terminology to the CSS and HTML.
