Is there any way to insert a module using the Designer horizontally?  I only see top and bottom as options for the Insert dropdown.  I'd like to have modules added side by side in the same pane.

You could modify the skin to provide a pane next to the one you have now or if you are just adding content using HTML/Text Module, you can use tables inside your single module to add content side by side.  You could also probably do it through CSS styles defined in the header and footer of the modules (where you specify some layouts in the CSS).

All these are possible, but panes are pretty much setup to run top to bottom and not side to side.
