Hi

I'm trying to convert an XHTML/CSS template to a DotNetNuke skin. One of the things I'm struggling with is getting the search control to look correct. The search on the original template uses a "Go" button with CSS styling to make the border and background match the rest of the site. On FireFox, the Go button is the same height as the search input control which its adjacent to, but on IE the Go button and input control are slightly different heights, so I use a conditional comment to style the button height to match the input control for IE only.

So far so good. But it appears that in DotNetNuke I am limited to using an <a> for the search "button" rather than a true button. I've tried using CSS to style the <a> to use the original button's border and background but I cannot find a way of making the <a> and the search input controls to match in both IE and FireFox.

Has anyone either successfully styled an <a> to look like a search button with the same height as the search input control, or managed to get DotNetNuke to use a true button to initiate the search?

Thanks

John

Here's a recent thread on this topic, there are more as well regarding skinning search.

Thanks Sam. I've already seen that thread, but using an Image is no good as browsers other than IE scale the input box when the user changes the display font size. So you cannot guarantee the image and the text box will line up nicely (i.e. I need the heights to be identical). You can use CSS to lock the height to a set number of pixels, but this is no good because the text typed into the search input box still scales and can be larger than the box!

It seems to me that the DotNet search is limited to anything you can embed into an <A>, basically text or an image. I haven't found anything else on the forum. The Open-SearchEngine (www.opendnn.com) module looks good, but as far as I can see uses tables to layout the search controls and I am committed to a table-less design (at least for layout purposes).

Any other ideas?

I have found out that it is possible to style the Open-SearchEngine to display without tables, so I'll have a go at that.
