Newbie question:

We have installed DNN 4.4.0 but we are having problems with changing from one skin to another in the admin settings. When we try to do this, the entire application blows up and we have to do a new install.

I have been reading the DotNetNuke skinning guide and I noticed that the file structure:

Skins/

/containers

/skins

exists under Portals/_default, but /0 does not have these folders. Could this be the reason why trying to change from the default skin to a different skin makes the application have fatal errors? Or is the normal initial file structure and we've skipped a step?

I'm just trying to get a grasp of the whole skinning procedure so that we can roll our own. I hate to start out on the wrong foot and complicate things even further.

TIA,

Cheryl

Cheryl,

skins and containers installed in /skins and /containers folders unter /portals/_default are available for all portals of the installation, those under /portals/portalID only for the associated portal. Can you please post the error message (if possible with details given in Event viewer).

Cheers from Germany,

When logged in as Admin and changing the portal skins (host radio button selected)

Setting the skin type for all four choices and then updating the page results in an error icon (red triangle with an exclamation point) and "An error has occurred." "An error has occurred." on two lines to the right of the triangle.

The site is unable to come up so I cannot reach either the host or admin controls.

Seems that "someone" forgot to put the correct menu in DNN 4.4.0 - don't choose the vertical menu. Nina was kind enough to help me solve the mystery. Yay, Nina! You, rock! Thanks a ton!
