Ok I’ve got kind of a silly question and perhaps I’ve overlooked it.
In DNN 4.X

How do I assign a thumbnail image to my skin after the install?

All I get for a thumbnail is Image Not Available. I’ve used DNN since 2.x and never really bothered to investigate how to assign an image but now I’m testing 4.x and its annoying not to have a Thumbnail image assigned to the Skin.

I’ve downloaded Skins from snow-covered and they always have their images automatically associate themselves after skin upload.

How do I accomplish this?

I know its something I’ve overlooked.

Make a screenshot of your skin in action and save as a .jpg with the same file name as the skin (like admin.jpg).  Put this file in the same directory as the skin.  Next time the skins page opens to this skin, DNN creates the thumbnail and displays it.
